A Contestant's Blunder

A contestant on the popular BBC show MasterChef: The Professionals made a glaring mistake during a recent episode. As four chefs competed to impress the judges with their culinary skills, one contestant's dish turned out to be inedible.

The Challenge

The chefs were tasked with cooking squid croquettes to perfection in a skills test set by judge Monica Galetti. They had just 20 minutes to prepare the dish, which was to be served with garlic mayo.

A Misstep in the Kitchen

Simon, a 36-year-old head chef, was the first to take on the challenge. While he initially got off to a good start, things quickly went awry when he was questioned about his method of preparing the squid.

"I don't think I want to mix it together [the squid and the bechamel], but I feel it should be mixed together," Simon confessed, appearing flustered.

Judge Gregg Wallace asked, "The raw squid and the bechamel?"

Simon replied, "But it doesn't make sense. You don't want to fry it first and the inks will be greasy."

He added, "I think I need to add the squid raw, cut it smaller, put it in and then it'll cook through quicker. That makes more sense."

A Costly Error

Unfortunately, Simon's decision to use raw squid in the croquettes was a major blunder. When the dish was served, judge Marcus Wareing quickly discovered that the squid was still raw.

"The squid is raw," Wareing remarked as he cut into the croquette.

Judge Monica Galetti also commented on the mistake, saying, "You knew the squid needed to be cooked before it went into the bechamel, but you weren't sure how to do it."

Viewers React

Viewers of the show took to social media to express their thoughts on Simon's error. Many were quick to point out the mistake and share their amusement.

"Raw squid time #MasterChefTheProfessionals," one viewer tweeted.

"No Simon. Not raw squid. #MasterChefTheProfessionals," wrote another.

"Whoops! #MasterChefTheProfessionals," chimed in a third viewer.
