But fans were left completely divided over his casting – especially after he revealed his secret ‘obsession’.
Chris, 62, told Megan: “I have cut back but obviously there are quite a few chairs in storage. Fifteen, 20 maybe.”
When Megan complained that she didn’t have that many chairs in her house, Chris went on: “You haven’t been through a complete chair obsession.
“Looking at auction sites, fantasising abut chairs, dreaming about chairs, drawling pictures of chairs, getting T-shirts with chairs on. Going to chair exhibitions.”
Fans were quick to share their thoughts on Chris’ strange hobby.
One tweeted: “Well that was a weird chair rant.”
Another wrote: “Chair exhibitions? Who knew there was such a thing?”
And someone else quipped: “Wonder if Chris Packham wants to buy my Queen Anne Chair?”
This week, former Really Wild Show star Chris has been co-hosting BBC2’s Springwatch.
It was confirmed earlier this month that he has also joined the new series of Celebrity Gogglebox alongside his stepdaughter Megan.
Making his debut on Friday night, the wildlife expert caught viewers’ eyes with his unusual NASA jumper and dry jokes.
But while some fans instantly warmed to him, others weren’t so sure.
“There’s one clear winner tonight and that’s Chris Packham,” one gushed.
Another agreed: “Chris Packham is an amazing addition to #CelebrityGogglebox. Love him.”
However, someone else said: “Chris Packham trying for the Wokest most boring man in Britain award moans about absolutely everything and despairs at mankind.”
And agreeing one critic moaned: “Chris Packham is annoying on here. Couldn’t watch TV with him.”
Other newbies who popped up on Celebrity Gogglebox were comedienne Katherine Ryan and her hubby Bobby Kootstra.
Cruise ship legend Jane MaDonald is also starring in the popular Channel 4 show alongside her best friend of 30 years, Sue Ravey.
It comes after the TV star made her debut as host for this years’ British Soap Awards, after Phillip Schofield announced he had quit ITV entirely.
Davina McCall and Tom Grennan are also new additions to Celebrity Gogglebox.
