Classic French detective series Maigret set for modern reboot

New Chief Inspector set to lead the way

A classic detective drama series, Maigret, is getting a contemporary makeover with a 21st-century update. Benjamin Wainwright will take on the role of Chief Inspector Jules Maigret, breathing new life into the French detective series that first aired 65 years ago.

From ITV to the BBC: A history of adaptations

Previous adaptations of the series include a two-season run on ITV starring Rowan Atkinson in 2016. The show is based on the books by Georges Simenon, following the adventures of Parisian Chief Inspector Jules Maigret as he tackles crime in the French capital.

Modern twist on a classic tale

The new series promises a modern take on the classic narrative, with Wainwright sporting a contemporary look against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower. The show will depict Maigret as an unconventional young detective striving to make a mark in the Police Judiciaire.

A star-studded cast

Joining Wainwright in the series are actors from various BBC, Channel 4, and Netflix dramas, including Stefanie Martini, Reda Elazouar, Blake Harrison, Kerrie Hayes, Shaniqua Okwok, Rob Kazinsky, and Nathalie Armin. The series has been created by Patrick Harbinson and will premiere on PBS Masterpiece in the US.
