Coronation Street backlash as disgusted fans slam soap for airing ‘drug party’ scenes before 9pm

CORONATION Street viewers were disgusted that the soap aired Abi Franklin’s “drug party” scenes before the 9pm watershed.

The troubled mechanic – who is played by actress Sally Carman in the ITV soap – relapsed this week after she confessed to cheating on partner Kevin Webster.

Coronation Street viewers were fuming that the show aired ‘drug party’ scenes before 9pm

On Monday’s episode, Kevin returned home from his holiday to try to forgive Abi for cheating on him.

“I thought I could just walk away but I can’t,” Kevin told his sister Debbie.

But Debbie pointed out he had come to see her first and not Abi – and he had to work out why.

Back at the house, Abi was with her dealer Dean.

In one scene, Dean was seen sniffing a substance as Abi asked: “Err what am I chopped liver? Where’s mine?”

But as the pair took a load of drugs, Kevin walked in to find them both off their faces.

To make matters worse, he walked in just as Dean was trying to massage Abi’s painful back.

Kevin left and Abi continued partying with Dean – but when she rushed to the toilet in pain, he stole the keys for the garage and went to steal a car.

ITV viewers were shocked at the drug-taking scenes and took to Twitter to slam the show for being “irresponsible”.

One viewer wrote: “Drug taking before 9pm on #Corrie”

Another wrote: “It’s not irresponsible to show Abi taking drugs before 9pm, kids could be watching. #Corrie”

“It’s not ideal for Corrie to be airing drug parties before the watershed,” another fumed.

Someone else tweeted: “Drug parties taking place on #Corrie #terrible… do we have a resident pot smoker?”

Viewers were left gobsmacked at the twist in the final moments of last night’s episode.

Running over, Abi tried to stop Dean from stealing her car but he pulled her in and drove off.

But midway through the joyride, Abi was in agony and demanded he pull over.

“I’m trying to tell you something, just listen to me you moron,” she screamed as she collapsed by the side of the road.

As she desperately tried to call for help, Abi fell to the floor and called 999.

“I’m having a baby,” she said before her battery died and she collapsed.

Viewers are in shock at the twist.

One wrote: “What an cliffhanger ending!! Abis having a baby what?! Cant wait for more scenes from the fantastic.”

A second said: “Bad enough back at work tomorrow, this has made me even more depressed.”

Another added: “OMG #Abi having a baby in the middle of nowhere
?
I know it will probably be #Imrams but I hope it’s #Kevins.”
