Coronation Street fans call out glaring newspaper blunder as Abi Webster gets ‘centre page spread’

CORRIE fans were already surprised when Abi Webster unexpectedly gave birth to a baby boy.

But during last night’s instalment of the ITV soap, they were even more baffled when she was featured in the Weatherfield Gazette.

Her sister-in-law Debbie found out when reading the local gazette

There’s another blunder for the cobbles amid Abi’s pregnancy nightmare.

Wednesday’s trip to Weatherfield left fans of the long-running drama scratching their heads after they learned Abi (played by Sally Carman) had been picked for a “centre page spread” in the local newspaper.

Abi was made aware of this by her sister-in-law Debbie (Sue Devaney) who confronted her upon reading the front page of the newspaper.

However, Coronation Street viewers were quick in pointing out how unrealistic this was.

As they mentioned on Twitter, this would never happen since the gazette would not be able to name Abi as the drug-addicted mother who left her baby in Weatherfield hospital.

One fuming viewer scoffed: “Oh please. The Weatherfield Gazette would not name Abi. And how the hell have they got a centre spread out of this non-story without interviewing her?”

“Are the media actually allowed to name the mother like that??”, another wrote.

A third baffled fan penned: “Why is Abi not in the least bit annoyed that the paper has named her? Because if she did complain, they’d have to have a storyline about how her local paper would never do this.”

One simply noted: “Abi’s made the paper”, a another startled fan chimed in: “This is really annoying me now. There’s no way the paper would infringe Abi’s privacy this way. Another terrible depiction of newspapers by Corrie. This is damaging.”

As mentioned above, the mechanic recently became a mother again, unaware that she was even pregnant in the first place.

During a relapse into a drug horror, she gave birth to a boy she decided to name Alfie in honour of her late son Seb.

But Abi is also going through turmoil as she revealed who the father of her baby is – and it’s not her husband Kevin (Michael Le Vell).

Imran Habeeb (Charlie De Melo) is said to have fathered Alfie due to his one night stand with Abi.

Abi was terrified Weatherfield residents would find out the solicitor was the father of her child, assuming a member of the hospital staff leaked her story to the press.

When he found out, Kevin rushed over to Abi and enveloped her in a hug as she was crying.

Kevin is aware he isn’t the baby’s father but still believes it could Abi’s ex Tez.

How will he react if he ever finds out the truth?

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV.
