Coronation Street fans convinced Faye Windass attacked Adam Barlow thinking he was Ray Crosby

CORONATION Street fans saw Adam Barlow attacked by a mystery assailant on Friday’s episode – but fans believe he may not have been the intended victim.

With Adam in the Bistro, he was attacked from behind and left in a pool of his own blood.

ITV has already confirmed that Peter Barlow, Sarah Platt, Carla Connor and Gary Windass are all the official suspects in the long-planned whodunnit -but fans have been left wondering if Faye Windass was the attacker, and Roy Crosby her target.

“#CoronationStreet looks like it’s a case of mistaken identity in Corrie, let’s face it Faye ain’t whacked Ray… poor Adam,” tweeted one fan after scenes aired on Friday.

“Has to be Faye thinking it was Ray sitting there,” shared another.

“Another good episode of @itvcorrie so this is my guess I think Faye stabbed Adam thinking it was Ray as his back was towards her,” suggested a third viewer.

Faye was attacked and almost raped by Ray earlier in the year, and Faye could be looking for revenge.

Roy will also be one of the first on the scene to find Adam, adding to the theory.

But in recent weeks Adam has enraged four of the residents on the street – Sarah, Peter, Carla and Gary.

Adam was forced to defend himself after his uncle Peter discovered he had slept with Carla.

Meanwhile, Adam’s ex Sarah had also confronted Adam again over sleeping with Carla – even though they had split up.

After their argument – in which Sarah screamed “drop dead Adam!” – he ran into Gary and the pair of them couldn’t resist sniping, with Gary gloating over Adam’s destroyed marriage.

But Adam hit back, threatening to call the police and reveal that the year prior Gary had murdered Rick Neelan and buried hs body.

“Maybe I’ll cheer myself up and call the cops and tell them to go to the woods and look for a body. Rick shaped,” he taunted.
