ITV viewers were baffled that Stephen had kept hold of the key card

The latest episode of the ITV soap opera was no different as the evil businessman was on a mission to take back the tie pin that was collected as part of Rufus Donohue’s items when his body was recovered.

Fans know that Stephen dropped the tie pin as he murdered his ex-colleague but it was only during Rufus’ memorial service that he realised Rufus’ estranged wife, Lou, was in possession of it.

Lou has become convinced that there is more than meets the eye surrounding her ex’s death and it has left Stephen desperate to cling back the item in order to keep him fully disassociated from his death.

During last week’s episode, fans will remember how Stephen offered to help take some belongings up to Rufus’ hotel room.

However, fans were left baffled as in tonight’s episode, days later, Stephen still had access to a hotel keycard, despite him only ever assisting Lou in taking some items to the room.

The serial killer let himself into Lou and her son, Jools’, room with the card.

He managed to recover the tie pin and swipe it back but was left disturbed as Jools arrived back whilst he was there.

Miraculously, Jools put his headphones on and sat facing away from Stephen allowing him to creep out.

He was soon confronted by Lou who had just made her way around the corner as she questioned what he was doing.

But the dastardly factory manager talked his way out of it as ever.

However, the scene left fans minds racing.

It begged the question why Stephen ever had a key card in the first place and if it was Lou’s who had lent it to him, why had he clung on to it for days without raising suspicion?

Viewers were baffled as to how Lou would not have asked for it back or why he even had it to begin with.

Writing online, one fan said: “How on earth did Stephen have the key card still?”

Another added: “How come Lou didn’t ask Stephen to give her back her room key, doesn’t add up!”

While a third penned: “I love the way Stephen has nearly been caught by both a tie pin and a loaf of bread.”
