Coronation Street fans stunned as rarely seen character makes surprise appearance

CORONATION Street fans have been left stunned as a rarely seen character made an appearance on Wednesday night.

The hour-long episode kicked off with the brief cameo appearance of Daniel Osbourne’s son Bertie, who walked across the screen.

Bertie was seen for the first time since August

The youngster is the son of Daniel and his late wife

Bertie’s rare sighting came just moments into this week’s instalment, as Daniel, played by Rob Mallard, met up with Nicky Wheatley.

The couple decided to start living together after Nicky, played by Kimberly Hart-Simpson, lost her teaching assistant job.

She returned to Corrie earlier this year alongside her daughter, Maisie, and was granted a job at the school for a fresh start.

However, her former sex worker past was unveiled when images and videos of her were spread via malicious pupils.

Daniel swooped in to save her, letting her move into his home – seeing her look after his young son Bertie while he worked.

Bertie – who Daniel welcomed with his late wife Sinead – has been missing from a number of episodes before he was spotted this week.

He was seen walking around with his bowl-cut locks as his dad and Nicky chatted by a post box on the street.

Fans went wild at the sight of him, and took to Twitter to celebrate that the youngster was back in the scenes.

“Bertie!!! Unless it’s just some young lad standing by a post box!” one wrote, as a second chimed in: “Couldn’t believe it! Bertie!”

“My god, Bertie is actually in a scene! Was beginning to think we’d never see him again,” a third chimed in.

A fourth added: “It’s Bertie! We have a sighting of Bertie! This is not a drill! I repeat, we have seen Bertie.”

It comes days after Corrie fans demanded to know where the beloved character had gone after they noticed Bertie was gone.

The youngster – played by Rufus Morgan-Smith – is rarely seen these days.

Fans recalled that last time they saw the tot was back in August, when Daniel rushed his son to hospital when he thought he had swallowed a battery.

Viewers demanded to know where he was, writing: “, just say that Bertie was abducted by aliens. It will make as much sense as why we haven’t seen him with Daniel.”

Another posted: “Corrie ooh Bertie, the invisible child, just got a mention.”

Another viewer added: “Think I might go on the Coronation Street tour and see if I can find Bertie, sort of like a real like Where’s Wally.”
