Corrie boss Iain MacLeod admitted he became emotional watching the Xmas episodes
Tyrone is set to take centre stage with his wedding plans
In a new chat, Iain promised that the comedy that Corrie fans know and love will absolutetly be there during the special Christmas Day episode.
He also revealed that he ‘cried twice’ however when watching the episode previews after some scenes proved particularly moving.
Iain teased: “There’s loads of comedy, lots of family fun in it and lots of warmth. I sort of cried twice in the viewing of it and I’m not given to tears.
“It’s really moving and lovely, but not moving in a sad way but moving in a kind of warms your cockles way. So I really think the fans are gonna love it, and the Fiz and Tyrone strand is probably the centre piece of it. It’s really good fun and the right amount of silly.”
Viewers will see Tyrone Dobbs plan a surprise Christmas Day wedding for partner Fiz after a tumultuous year for the duo.
It will mark Fiz’s second wedding of the year following her very short-lived marriage to Phil which broke down when she realised she still wanted to be with Tyrone.
Speaking of the up and down couple, Iain added: “Alan Halsall and Jennie McAlpine are absolutely marvellous in it, and the kids are great so it just feels totally Christmas and totally Corrie, so it’s a warm end of the year for us really.
“It is fun and family orientated. Corrie has always done that. A few years ago we went a little bit Die Hard with Gary Windass and Shona and the funfair story which I absolutely loved, it was very exciting.”
Iain confirmed the show would aim to go back to its roots this Christmas and avoid any over-the-top dramatic scenes to focus on a typical Christmas on the street.
Other stories that look to play a big role this festive season include Shona Platt’s temporary exit from the show, Stephen Reid and his wicked ways and his new-found friendship with Elaine as well as Daryan’s hate crime plot at the hands of evil Griff and his gang.
Will Fiz and Tyrone live happily ever after?
