A spokesperson said the complaints were related to scenes depicting an acid attack.

It comes after the episode was slammed by fans who accused bosses of going “too far”.

It saw Daisy Midgeley’s stalker Justin throw acid at her but ended up dousing Ryan Connor in disturbing and upsetting scenes.

As she stepped out ready to go to the wedding venue, Ryan told the one remaining drinker that it was time to go.

But as Daisy walked out she heard Justin (played by former Hollyoaks star Andrew Still) behind her, saying: “Look at you.

“You think everyone wants you because you’re so perfect, don’t you? No-one’s going to want you after this.”

With that he threw a glass of liquid at Daisy by Ryan dived in the way not realising what it was.

He fell to the floor screaming in agony as some of the acid began burning on his face and on Daisy’s skin.

She crawled over to Ryan who was rolling around the floor in agony and grabbed her phone to call an ambulance.

Daisy dragged him into the back and into the bathroom and put him in the shower, holding the constant flow of water over his wounds.

She ran into the kitchen and grabbed scissors to cut away Ryan’s melting shirt but his howls of pain and anguish were too much for viewers.

They accused the soap of going too far with the storyline.

One wrote: “Can’t believe Coronation Street would air something like that! Shocking!”

A second said: “Difficult to watch that”

And a third said: “This is too much.”

Speaking on This Morning on Tuesday, Ryan Prescott said Coronation Street would be focusing on Ryan’s recovery long into the future.

“That’s one thing we wanted to include was to have some longevity within the parameters of soap, which obviously moves very quickly,” he said.

“We wanted to have some kind of longevity in the aftermath.

“Acid attack survivors go through hundreds of operations, multiple skin grafts and quite often a lifetime of post-traumatic stress disorder.

“We want to show the different stages of his recovery.”
