Coronation Street legend returns to the cobbles 12 years after DYING on the soap

CORONATION Street legend Reece Dinsdale is set to return to the Cobbles 12 years after DYING on the soap.

Reece played Joe McIntyre on the Cobbles for two years until 2010, when his character met his end trying to fake his own death in order to claim insurance money.

He played Gail Platt’s fourth husband Joe McIntyre

The plot made headlines as it mirrored real-life canoe-man John Darwin’s antics – but hapless Joe accidentally killed himself.

Now the star is back as a show director, more than a decade after playing Gail Platt‘s fourth husband.

Reece wrote on Twitter: “I start #Corrie for real tomorrow. Proper grown-up meeting with the script team over in Manchester. First time I’ve been back there in twelve years!

“Both nervous and excited. Wouldn’t have it any other way.”

One fan asked: “Are you directing or acting or both?”

And Reece replied: “Directing”

He also posted a picturesque snap from a room at the Corrie studios, and jokingly wrote: “Not sure how they expect me to work in this pokey little hovel!”

The actor also starred in Emmerdale and his character Paul Ashdale met a grisly on the Dales last year.

His storyline reached a devastating climax as viewers watched a van crash into Paul on his wedding day to Mandy Dingle.

Reece said of his soap deaths: “I thought it might be difficult to top my exit from Corrie where I drowned in Lake Windermere… but maybe we did! I’d say far better than leaving in a taxi.”
