CORONATION Street star Sally Dynevor is bursting with pride after her daughter landed the lead role in big budget Netflix drama Bridgerton.
The 25-year-old, who previously starred in Waterloo Road and Snatch, plays titular character Daphne Bridgerton in the period piece, which comes out on Christmas Day.
And mum Sally couldn’t be happier, telling the Mirror: “I just want to say I’m very proud of Phoebe and as a family, we are so excited to see Bridgerton on Christmas Day.”
Phoebe had previously said “never say never” when asked if she’d work alongside her mum in Corrie, but she’s forged her own path and her star looks set to explode.
The eight-part series promises scandal, wild romps and plenty of gossip.
Netflix released a teaser trailer last month that revealed Bridgerton will be a far cry from other hit period dramas such as Downton Abbey, replacing polite, stuffy society with debauchery and wild affairs.
The unseen narrator, voiced by legendary actress Julie Andrews, said: “My name is Lady Whistledown. You do not know me and never shall but be forewarned, dear reader, I certainly know you.”
Inspired by Julia Quinn’s novels, the series follows Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family, as she makes her debut in London’s competitive marriage market.
The teaser trailer shows the high class society at first intrigued, then outraged, by Lady Whistledown’s ‘gossip sheet’.
She promises to “uncover” any scandal, which should keep the unidentified Lady very busy as the trailer is full of romps and backstabbing.
Hoping to follow in her parents’ footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne’s prospects initially seem good.
But as her older brother begins to rule out potential suitors, the scandal sheet casts aspersions on Daphne.
However, the highly desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) arrives on the scene; a committed bachelor and the catch of the season for the debutantes’ mothers.
Despite proclaiming that they want nothing the other has to offer, their attraction is undeniable and sparks fly as they find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while navigating society’s expectations for their future.
The series also stars Golda Rosheuvel, Jonathan Bailey, Luke Newton, Luke Thompson, Claudia Jessie, Nicola Coughlan, Ruby Barker, Sabrina Bartlett, Ruth Gemmell, Adjoa Andoh, Polly Walker, Bessie Carter and Harriet Cains.
It is the first series from Shonda Rhimes’s Shondaland and has been created by longtime Shonda Rhimes collaborator, Chris Van Dusen, who previously worked on Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal.
Speaking about the adaptation, author Julia told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year: “I was blown away; it’s so good.
“It’s not a word-for-word adaptation, and it shouldn’t be.
“They’re interweaving a few new stories and different stories, but the heart of this season is the story of The Duke and I and how they did it and how they structured it, is just brilliant.”
Bridgerton will premiere on Netflix on December 25, Christmas Day.
