Football match takes precedence over beloved soap
Coronation Street fans were left disappointed and angry when the popular soap was pulled off air tonight due to a schedule shake-up. Usually airing for one hour on a Friday from 8pm until 9pm, the soap had to make way for Tottenham Hotspur's FA Cup match against Burnley, which aired from 7.30pm.
Soap fans given extra episodes earlier in the week
In order to compensate for the absence of tonight's episode, Coronation Street treated fans to three one-hour episodes on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. However, some fans expressed their frustration on social media, with one writing, "no #Corrie tonight, football instead."
Further disruption for Corrie fans next week
Unfortunately, the schedule disruption won't end there. Next week, Monday's episode of Coronation Street has been rescheduled due to Wigan Athletic's FA Cup third round match against Manchester United. As a result, hour-long episodes will air on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday instead.
Emmerdale fans can breathe a sigh of relief
While Coronation Street fans face ongoing schedule changes, fans of Emmerdale can breathe a sigh of relief. Tonight's half-hour episode of the ITV soap will air at its usual time of 7.30pm, and Monday's episode will also air without any disruption at 7.30pm.
Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
