Coronation Street spoilers: Amy Barlow discovers Summer Spellman’s secret torment

SUMMER Spellman has been secretly struggling with an eating disorder in recent weeks.

But in upcoming scenes of Coronation Street, her secret comes to light as Amy Barlow catches her red-handed.

The jig is up for Summer, played by actress Harriet Bibby.

Amy Barlow confronts Summer Spellman next week

Following her diabetes diagnosis, the Weatherfield teen has struggled to come to terms with her condition and has resorted to purging as she obsessively tries to control her weight.

This has led to her overworking and even refusing to feed herself.

Her loved ones are growing increasingly concerned as her struggle becomes more apparent.

Next week, her guardian Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) is worried when he realises Summer has been up all night revising and warns her she’ll burn herself out, which could send her blood sugars all over the place.

Even worse, still, Summer shuts down when faced with support from her friends.

When Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) calls to see her, Summer sends him packing.

Later, Billy reminds her that she promised to help out at the church but Summer’s adamant she doesn’t have the time.

Billy is beside himself but, thankfully, Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) agrees to help by promising she will try and speak to Summer.

A persistent Amy calls for Summer and manages to convince her to take a break from all her work to grab a quick coffee.

Both friends end up in Roy Cropper’s café and when the latter gives them bacon sandwiches on the house, Summer panics but pretends to be grateful.

The girls take them back to the flat to eat and Amy leaves.

But when she realises she has left her phone in Summer’s home, she returns – only to hear her friend retching in the bathroom.

Summer denies making herself sick but a shocked Amy is wisely unconvinced and threatens to speak to Billy about her eating disorder.

Stressed, Summer begs her not to and vows she will never do it again.

But will Amy believe her or turn to Billy?

What should Amy do to help Summer?
