The debt collector has managed to avoid any trouble with the law that is until Sarah Barlow, played by Tina O’Brien, shares a tip an anonymous tip to Crimestoppers in an upcoming episode.
The tip-off subsequently leaves police searching the woods for a body unbeknown to Gary.
However, it all comes to a crescendo in scenes set to hit TV on Wednesday, December 23 when the authorities bring Gary in for questioning over Rick’s death.
As the events unfold, Maria Connor, played by Samia Longchambon, is left stunned that he’s under suspicion over Rick’s disappearance.
And if Gary thought the police interview would be a piece of cake, he’d be wrong as they tell him they’ve found evidence suggesting that a body was buried in the woods.
The police then tell him they have reason to believe that it was missing Rick.
Giving his best performance, Gary pleads his innocence and insists that he knows nothing about the loan shark’s disappearance.
Gary is subsequently released from custody due to a lack of evidence to arrest or charge him – which leaves Sarah livid.
In her anger, Sarah confronts Gary at his flat and accuses him of moving Rick’s body to swerve arrest.
As their argument erupts, Maria steps in and demands an explanation from Gary as to why Sarah thinks he’s the killer.
However, things go from bad to worse when Maria kicks him out when Gary can’t offer an explanation. Will Gary’s secret come to light?
