Coronation Street spoilers: Izzy Armstrong returns and clashes with mum Linda over Joseph

RECOVERING from Joseph’s disappearance, the Chesney-Brown family are met with Linda Hancock’s surprise return.

The boy’s maternal grandmother quickly butts heads with Izzy Armstrong as the latter makes a return to Coronation Street.

Linda crosses swords with many residents

Years after leaving Weatherfield for Portugal and following her daughter Katy’s tragic death, Linda (played by actress Jacqueline Leonard) makes a comeback to the cobbles.

Back in 2017, Linda allowed Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) to take care of her grandson, Joseph (William Flanagan), in the hopes that a bond with his father would help him process his mother’s passing.

But upon her return to Weatherfield, Linda finds Chesney swamped and overwhelmed, struggling to keep his family life in balance as the father of five children.

Willing to help him, she is soon made to be furious when she is told about Joseph’s kidnapping ordeal.

This slowly convinces Linda that there is no safer place for Joseph than at her side, away from any scheming relatives in the likes of Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove).

Ready to take action, Linda first slyly suggests Joseph should come live with her in Portugal in scenes due to air on our screens next week.

Fuming, Chesney throws Linda out of the house, making it clear to her that she is to stay away from Joseph in the future.

Later on, Chesney and Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) discuss how they can ensure Joseph’s happiness… while the young boy listens in.

After misunderstanding the conversation, Joseph is convinced that he is not wanted at No.5 anymore and says he would rather live with Granny Linda.

But while Chesney begs his son to reconsider, another member of the Armstrong clan steps out of the woodwork.

Linda’s second daughter Izzy returns to Weatherfield to cross swords with her estranged mother, tearing a strip off her for trying to take Joseph away from his family.

The first member of her family to be introduced to Corrie fans, Izzy was followed into the cobbles by her father and sister Katy soon after her arrival.

Actress Cherylee Houston hasn’t been seen in the ITV programme since 2021, after a brief appearance via video call.

She has been shielding since March, 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic as she struggles with a rare connective tissue disorder called Ehlers-Danlos, meaning that her character hasn’t had the chance to be a part of recent storylines.

Although wheelchair-bound, Izzy is a force to be reckoned with.

How will Linda react to her daughter confronting her?

Will Joseph really leave Weatherfield?

All that and more on Coronation Street.
