Coronation Street Star Faces Financial Probe for Unpaid Tax Bill

Corrie Legend in Hot Water

A well-known Coronation Street actress, Beverley Callard, who portrayed Liz McDonald on the popular ITV soap, is currently under investigation for allegedly failing to settle a substantial six-figure tax bill amounting to £215,000. The financial probe stems from debts incurred by Callard's acting firm, JMBJ Limited, which went into liquidation last year.

Unpaid Tax Bill and Director's Loans

Despite earning millions during her tenure on Coronation Street, Callard's company owes HMRC £98,769 in unpaid taxes, including outstanding VAT and corporation tax. Liquidators have initiated a probe into Callard and her husband, Jon McEwan, regarding their failure to repay the tax bills and director's loans totaling £114,000.

Bankruptcy Looms

If the director's loans remain unpaid, Callard and her husband could face bankruptcy. Callard had previously experienced financial difficulties in 2012, declaring bankruptcy due to personal challenges and business setbacks. However, she received a financial boost in 2020 after appearing on I'm A Celebrity.

Statement from Beverley Callard

In response to the ongoing legal dispute, Callard's spokeswoman issued a statement addressing the situation. Callard expressed that certain details are inaccurate but refrained from providing further comments until the legal matters are resolved. She looks forward to setting the record straight once the dispute is settled.
