Kym Marsh, who portrays Michelle Connor on Coronation Street, became emotional during a live TV appearance as she shared details about her father's battle with cancer.
Kym Marsh, beloved actress from the popular ITV soap opera Coronation Street, couldn't hold back her tears as she discussed her family's heartbreak during a recent episode of BBC's Morning Live. The star opened up about her father David's terminal cancer diagnosis, which was first revealed in 2021. Since then, Kym has been keeping viewers informed about her father's health on the show.
In an effort to raise awareness about the disease, Kym and co-host Gethin Jones welcomed her parents, David and Pauline, to the studio. The emotional segment shed light on the importance of early detection and urged other men to undergo regular screenings.
During a pre-recorded clip, Kym expressed her desire to spare others from experiencing the same pain. She admitted to being more emotional than her father, who has shown incredible strength throughout his battle. Kym shared, "We know we've reached a point where they can't do anything else for him, and they said 'go and make memories with your family,' and that's exactly what we're doing."
Unfortunately, David's cancer has now spread to his bones, and he is no longer receiving treatment. Kym provided an update on her father's condition earlier this month on Morning Live. Gethin sympathetically addressed the situation, stating, "I know you've been spending quite a lot of time with your dad recently... the reason you've been spending time with him is because you've had some bad news, haven't you?"
Kym confirmed the news, sharing that her father's latest scan results revealed additional cancer deposits in his spine. She mentioned that further scans are being conducted to determine if the cancer has spread to other bones. Unfortunately, chemotherapy is no longer an option for David.
Despite the heartbreaking news, Kym emphasized the importance of making lasting memories with her father. She shared, "So they advised us to go and spend lots of time with him and make lots of memories. So that's what we've been doing, we went out on Halloween to a lights trail and he's just been enjoying spending time with his family."
Gethin, offering words of comfort, acknowledged David's resilience. He expressed his support and love for the Marsh family, hoping to see David again soon.
