Coronation Street Star Paula Wilcox Had Forgotten Role on Soap Before Playing Elaine Jones

Coronation Street fans have come to know and love Paula Wilcox as Elaine Jones, but it turns out that she actually portrayed another character on the long-running ITV soap.

From Philippa to Elaine: Paula Wilcox's Double Role

Paula Wilcox, who recently celebrated her 74th birthday, first appeared on the cobbles as Janice Langton for a few episodes in January and February 1969. Janice arrived in Weatherfield as a fugitive from her probation officer after being convicted of robbery and violence. It wasn't until 2020 that Paula returned to Coronation Street as Elaine Jones, the first wife of serial abuser Geoff Metcalfe.

A Farewell to Elaine Jones

After three years on the show, Paula Wilcox said goodbye to her role as Elaine Jones in October. In a dramatic exit, Elaine decided to leave the cobbles and start a new life elsewhere, away from the memories of her encounter with serial killer Stephen Reid. Fans were devastated by her departure and took to social media to express their sadness.
