He has undergone an impressive physical transformation over the decades

Time has flown by for Alan as he celebrated his 40th birthday yesterday (August 11, 2022).

The soap star has received a plethora of heartfelt messages from his fans who have grown to love him as mechanic Tyrone Dobbs in Corrie for the past 24 years.

Two years before being introduced as the iconic character, Alan appeared in Weatherfield during a single episode of the long-running show in 1996.

However, and to the surprise of many, his career on the small screen didn’t begin in the cobbles.

In fact, Alan has made an impressive amount of appearances on the box, including as Trevor Chivers in four episodes of rival soap Heartbeat from 1998 to 1999.

But, once again, this wasn’t the first time he was thrown into the spotlight and he’s looked drastically different upon each of his appearances.

Alan kicked off his career at the age of 15 as David Hartley in Hetty Wainthropp Investigates in 1997.

In an unearthed shot of his stint, Alan is seen looking unrecognisable, worlds away from his role as Tyrone Dobbs.

The actor, then a young lad, is wrapped up in a blue dressing gown with a white shirt and his hair is in a neat side parting.

A year later, Alan changed up his look once again as he appeared in Heartbeat and was seen dressed in a school uniform with a blue striped tie, a black blazer and a white shirt.

After parting his hair to the side, he opted for a fringe and middle parting but went a step further when he was first seen as Tyrone in Coronation Street.

During his first ever appearance in the ITV show, Alan was relaxing on a bed while playing with a GameBoy, dressed in a black jumper paired with scruffy jeans.

While he’ll perhaps always be known as garage worker Tyrone Dobbs, Alan’s TV credits also include appearances in Children’s Ward, Queer as Folk and Stanton Blues.

And throughout his two decades on the box, fans have seen him undergo an impressive transformation as he shed quite a few pounds – although the precise amount has never been revealed.
