Coronation Street’s Julia Goulding reveals who she thinks Shona’s ideal partner would be – and it’s not David Platt

CORONATION Street’s Julia Goulding has revealed who she really thinks Shona’s ideal partner would be – and surprisingly it’s not on-screen husband David Platt.

The actress, who has played Shona Platt in Coronation Street since 2016, said she’s been “championing” for a very different character for some time.

Julia said she’d love to see Shona get together with Abi or be best friends

It’s fair to say that Shona has been through the mill after she was shot by Derek Milligan, one of Gary’s Windass’ clients at Christmas 2019.

The wife of David Platt suffered extensive brain damage and memory loss as a result of the accident and forgot much of her later life.

This meant she was completely unaware of who her husband and the rest of the Platt family were.

She and David have also faced plenty of other obstacles in their relationship, including David’s criminal convictions, and threats from Clayton and his father Dane.

Despite their ups and downs, the pair still managed to tie the knot – again – and recreated their wedding last Christmas.

But Julia admits she would love to see her character with another resident on the cobbles.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, the 36-year-old said: “I’ve been saying for a while but I’m championing Shona and Abi to get together or to be best friends.

“I’d love to work more with Sally Carman and also we’ve got the best hashtag name – #Shabi. Fingers crossed.”

The actress also dished the dirt on her co-stars’ off-screen antics – including who is the biggest party animal is.

“We’re all social butterflies but Mikey North [who plays Gary] is a great one to have a good night out with,” she said.

Julia added that there’s also a very “messy” member of the cast but that she’s yet to figure out exactly who it is.

“There is somebody who eats half a chocolate bar and puts it back in the snack box in the green room and I want to know who that is!” she added.
