Mikey said an ‘ex boxer’ was hired to play ‘a heavy’

The soap star, 35, has now revealed the actor playing the role is a former boxer and was “doing it for real” as they filmed the scene.

Speaking to The Daily Star, Mikey said: “Weirdly, one of the ‘heavies’, we call them – one of the baddie’s sidekicks in this storyline – was actually an ex-champion boxer.

“And let me tell you that when he strangles you he is not acting. He is doing that for real, and Millie [Gibson] will vouch for that as well. When you see us being strangled that is not acting.”

Kelly, played by Millie, will soon discover the truth surrounding her dad Rick’s death at the hands of her father figure.

She then hires a hitman to get revenge on Gary – but her plan backfires.

Along with Gary, the “heavy” also turns on her, leaving both of their lives hanging in the balance.

It was confirmed in June that Millie’s character Kelly would plot to bump Gary off after discovering the truth about Rick’s death.

And even then, the actress admitted it was unlikely that Kelly would carry out the murder.

Millie said: “I think she has those spiteful moments where we sort of see her old self but I don’t think she could be capable of that.”

Fans will wonder if the upcoming hitman scenes will pave the way for Millie’s exit from the soap.

It was confirmed in the summer that her character would be leaving Weatherfield following a three year stint and viewers fear she will be killed off.

Corrie boss Iain MacLeod has also confirmed she will have a “high stakes exit” — being seen as a hint that she dies.

Producer Mr MacLeod revealed in September: “We created this incredibly cinematic sequence for the setpiece of this week, which I’m incredibly excited about.

“The gist of the week is we all know, and it leaves me with a heavy heart to say it, but we all know Kelly’s leaving the show.

“So we thought, well, actually, the fact that Millie is going and that therefore Kelly is going, allows us to go really big and do something incredibly high stakes.”
