The show follows the pair as they take a journey along the Pennine Way, which is one of the UK’s most famous long-distance walks spanning 268 miles.
Speaking ahead of the release of Pennine Aventure Dan, 46, revealed how emotional things got while he was filming with Helen, 40.
“There were a few tears along the way,” Dan admitted.
“But mostly you have a nice hug, then you crack on,” he added.
Filming the travel show was an emotional journey for Dan, but he was excited to reunite with Helen, who currently presents Countryfile and Morning Live, after he left the BBC last year.
The Channel 5 presenter added: “If you’re with somebody for six weeks you go through the full range of emotions – serious, silly and everything in between.”
Dan explained that he and Helen really had to push themselves out of their comfort zones to film this show, which sees them participating in various physical activities in the pennines.
The former BBC Breakfast presenter had to face his biggest fears to complete them, so no wonder there were a few tears.
He said: “If anything, it was more about fear because I hate heights and I don’t really like horses.
“But I had to abseil down a 100-metre cave and go on the back of a horse, but I’m now best friends with a horse called Roger and I made it to the bottom of the cave.”
Meanwhile, Helen gushed about her friend and co-star, saying: “Dan was terrified but he did it. Fear is relative. It doesn’t matter whether you’re scared of a spider or abseiling out of a helicopter.
“You’ve got to do things that are scary and I think people will get a lot out of seeing Dan out of his comfort zone with the abseiling, although [laughs] there’s a bald patch of grass in North Yorkshire where he tore roots from the ground,” she added.
In the rest of this four-part show, viewers will see Dan and Helen exploring the natural beauty of the pennines and meeting the locals who live and work on the trail. According to the official synopsis, the pair will “throw away the guidebooks and discover the ‘real’ Pennines.”
Channel 5 began filming the show in June, less than six months after Dan was rushed to hospital after a serious motorbike accident. He recently told The Celeb Report that he sustained nerve damage from the accident.
Happily, Dan has recovered from the accident and recently announced that Pennine Adventure would begin airing on Tuesday 15thAugust at 9pm.
“Can’t wait for you to watch it and thanks again to everyone who was either on it or came and said ‘hello,’” he wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
