The former BBC Breakfast host was left with a bloodied face but no broken bones

Dan is currently absent from his Channel 5 news role during his recovery and has taken to Twitter for a progress update.

He uploaded an image that saw the wounds on his face healing, though the painful-looking blemishes on his hands remain.

He was seen wearing a woollen hat as he cuddled his dog and wrote: “Took Winnie for a walk and a haircut today.

“She’s much happier than she looks and smells gorgeous.

“Face coming on nicely. Hopefully back in business soon.

“Thanks for all your lovely messages.”

One fan was quick to respond: “Pleased to see your teeth look intact! We see some terrible #dental trauma from cycling accidents @dentaltraumauk has great advice for anyone with a dental injury especially in those vital few hours post injury.”

Dan, offering an insight into his lasting health battles, replied: “Might have lost the blood supply to one of them and they ache a bit but they are still there.”

In reply to another fan, he put: “I’m ok boss. Glad I can’t remember it and happy not to dwell on it.

“Thankful to be in one piece and ready to crack on.”

After the scary incident, Dan’s former BBC Breakfast colleagues issued a sweet get-well message on screen.

Previously, Dan said that his life had been saved by the bike helmet he was wearing when he was hit.

In his update on Twitter, the broadcaster said: “Just got home from hospital. Battered and bruised but – amazingly – nothing broken.

“Very thankful to still be here. I have no memory of anything and just remember coming round on the tarmac with paramedics and police around me.”

He added: “The helmet I was wearing saved my life today so – if you’re on a bike – get one on your head.

“Smashed my watch & phone, ruined my trousers, my bike is a mess but I’m still here.

“Currently eating soup through a straw and being looked after by this gorgeous, tired nurse.”

The presenter also posted a selfie of his bruised and bloodied face, as well as pics of his smashed watch and ripped trousers.

In another selfie, he posted alongside one of the NHS nurses caring for him.

Dan earlier said he was travelling on his bike when he was hit by a car.

He has since reached out to the driver of the vehicle to settle the issue “out of court.”

The journalist left the BBC in May after six years for a new role at Channel 5.
