DANCING On Ice has suffered a fresh blow as pro-skater Hamish Gaman has had to pull out of the competition after snapping a tendon in his hand.
ITV have confirmed that Hamish, who was partnered with Faye Brookes, will leave the competition immediately.
“Sadly we can confirm that Hamish Gaman, who has been partnered with Faye Brookes, has had to withdraw from the competition,” an ITV spokesperson said.
“We thank him for all his hard work and wish him the very best as he takes some time out to allow his injury to fully heal.”
Former Corrie star Faye will continue in the competition with pro-skater Matt Evers.
Earlier today, Hamish opened up about his injury as he explained that they’d changed their routine last minute so he could still perform at the weekend.
He shared: “Faye wasn’t fully aware but I snapped a tendon in my hand and I was advised before the show that I’m putting my finger at risk for the rest of my life here.
“It’s one of those scenarios where there was a lot of people dropping out of the show and I love this show so much and I didn’t want to let the team down.”
The skater continued: “They strapped up my hand so I could get through the show. We had to make a lot of changes to the routine last minute, we re-choreographed the whole second half.”
In a quote tweet of his original interview, Hamish said: “I’ve been told that I don’t need surgery on my finger. I’ll just be sporting a bling splint for a few weeks.
“I can’t wait to return to @dancingonice with @Faye_Brookes on 28th Feb #DancingOnIce”
This is the latest in a long line of setbacks Dancing On Ice has endured this series, with The Celeb Report revealing yesterday that bosses had axed this weekend’s episode.
The show is going on a one-week enforced hiatus as bosses feared even more stars dropping out with injuries.
Denise Van Outen became the first to make an early departure after she fractured her shoulder in training, followed by Rufus Hound after he received a positive coronavirus test.
Billie Faiers then left because she suffered concussion following an accident, and Joe-Warren Plant was axed last weekend for also testing positive for Covid.
Jason Donovan skipped last weekend’s show due to a back injury, and Rebekah Vardy and Lady Leshurr are also fighting injuries.
An ITV source told us: “Everyone’s just been working really hard to put on a brilliant series.
“The production team has been amazing working around new protocols and working around the pandemic which is ever-evolving with new variants and such.
“This break will just allow the cast and crew the time to take a breath. Everyone gives it their all and just wants the show to be amazing for viewers at home so a week to recharge and rest up before coming back will be great.”
Dancing On Ice will be back on our screens on 28th February, and fans have called for the last eliminated celeb, Amy Tinkler, to return.
Others believe that Joe-Warren could be in for a surprise comeback as his two-week coronavirus quarantine will be over in time for the next episode.
