DANCING On Ice’s Kye Whyte has suffered a nasty accident and has been forced to pull out of tonight’s show.
ITV confirmed that the silver medallist BMX racer, 22, would not be taking part in tonight’s movie week.
He is one of 12 celebrities to have signed up to the skating show.
Kyle said: “It’s an unfortunate accident. I’ve trained and worked hard with Tippy to perform this weekend.
“For me, as an athlete, I’m used to stuff like this happening where you get injured and can’t compete. I’m more sad for Tippy, she’s worked hard so not being able to skate is obviously upsetting.
“We both really wanted to do this number, it’s a cool performance and we put a lot of effort into it.
“I was so happy and excited for everyone when they skated last weekend. I was watching and couldn’t wait to skate this Sunday. I’ll be there cheering everyone on!”
Kye sustained a sprain to his knee and was treated by the Dancing on Ice medical professionals who advised him to step down from this weekend’s show.
He was due to perform with skating partner Tippy Packard, a new show professional, figure skater, and three-time Hong Kong champion.
An ITV spokesperson said: “During rehearsals for this Sunday’s show, Kye fell on the ice and sustained an injury and will therefore not perform in this weekend’s show.”
Kye had exploded on to the ice on January 17th riding a BMX bike and he scored 24 for his routine to Dizzee Rascal’s Bonkers.
He said following the performance: “I was super scared, I have come a long way.”
Judge Ashley Banjo said that he had done a “great job for a week one”.
The star made history at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after winning Great Britain’s first ever BMX Olympic medal.
The Team GB hero first started riding when he was three-years-old after being influenced by his dad Nigel, the co-founder of the famous Peckham BMX Club.
