Dancing On Ice’s Rufus Hound admits he hates skating and is only doing the show because he’s unemployed

DANCING On Ice star Rufus Hound does not mince his words when it comes to why he’s starring in the competition series.

The 41-year-old comedian needs to make some money because he has “been unemployed for six months!”

Dancing on Ice’s Rufus Hound is not keen on ice skating, but really needs the job

Rufus also admitted he was not doing ITV’s ice skating competition to learn any new talents or skills.

He’s also never fancied ice skating it turns out.

Despite his complete lack of eagerness, Rufus has promised he will have fun and give it a good go.

“Seriously…I think the show will be really fun. And I don’t know anyone who has done the show who hasn’t had an amazing time doing it,” he explained.

He joins a star studded cast ahead of the season premiere on January 17

“It will be fun, it will be an interesting experience. Also, the longer you do it the more invested you are and the more part of the gang you feel if you get to turn up week after week.”

Rufus also admitted that while he was entirely motivated by money to do Dancing on Ice, he will probably end up being really competitive.

“I wouldn’t have done this show for love nor money had it not been for the fact that the entire world stopped and everything I do to earn a living doesn’t exist,” he said referring to the coronavirus pandemic.

“At the point that is true, if ITV ring me and say do you want to learn ice skating for 3 months and do a bunch of dances and be in people’s homes in the most miserable part of the year being part of a show that makes people happy and spreads joy, is something people watch as a family then my choices are I can do that or sit at home feeling massively depressed.”

The coronavirus pandemic has left the comedian without work for six months

He added: “That doesn’t mean I’m not looking forward to it and it doesn’t mean I don’t want it to go well.

“I might be the one person in the mix who is like ‘no I am unemployed, I don’t want to do this, I am doing it because I have to try and find a way of earning money’ and then in week two when it starts going well or week four when I land a perfect score or whatever then the story may change – look at this dope who turned up saying this isn’t what I wanted to do and NOW look at him go with his jété and his spin!”

He also split from his wife of 12 years, Beth Johnson

Along with being unemployed, Rufus also split from his wife of 12 years in April.

Taking to Twitter in October Rufus wrote: “In April, Beth and I made the sad decision to end our marriage.

“We will always have much love and respect for each other.

The pair have two children together and said they will remain ‘best friends’

“Even though we are separated we will always remain best friends and, as always, our family will remain our number one priority.”

The pair married in Vegas’s Little White Wedding Chapel just four months after they first met in 2007, at Reading Festival.

Rufus is a comedian and actor who has starred in an array of stage productions including Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Boy In The Dress and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

He has also appeared in many comedy shows such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Celebrity Juice, where he was a regular panellist.
