The Illinois native was a regular face on American TV for over 30 years

Quinn’s death was announced Monday January 9 by his family.

The cause remains unknown.

Quinn was a guest star staple on American television for more than three decades from the 1960s through the 1980s.

He was best known for his portrayal of Alex Marshall on Days of Our Lives from 1979 to 1987.

Alex was a disreputable character, and many viewers believed he killed his brother Harley Marshall.

The character was sent to prison at the end of Quinn’s run on the show after he was convicted of burning down the Salem Inn, which he owned, to collect insurance money.

For this role, Quinn was a two-time winner at the Soap Opera Digest Awards, taking home the 1983 Soapy Award for Best Villain.

The daytime star also played Rex Sterling on more than 200 episodes of CBS’s The Young and Restless.

He was twice nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series in 1989 and 1990.

GOLDEN AGE VILLAIN

As the news of his passing broke, many of Quinn’s fans from his time on Days of Our Lives paid tribute to the late star.

“That’s too bad about Quinn Redeker. Alex Marshall was such a fun villain,” wrote one on Twitter.

“On Days, Alex was a lovable villain like Stefano or Victor, but much more incompetent and hilarious,” shared another.

A third posted: “So sad. RIP to the legend Quinn Redeker. He was around during the golden age of soap. Prayers and love to his loved ones.”

Quinn also appeared in shows like Starsky & Hutch, The Six Million Dollar Man, Cannon and Kojak.

In the TV movie Love Boat II, Quinn portrayed Captain Madison.

In addition to his time on the small screen, the Illinois native also starred in movies including The Electric Horseman, The Candidate and Ordinary People.

Quinn was a screenwriter too, winning a number of Academy Awards in 1978, including best picture, for his writing credit on The Deer Hunter, starring Robert De Niro.

A father-of-four, Quinn is survived by Brennen, Arianne, Glaen and Quinn Jr., and two grandchildren.
