DEATH in Paradise fans have begged bosses to ‘bring Ruby Patterson back’ after her ‘annoying’ replacement was met with backlash.
Ruby – played by Shyko Amos – was last seen on screen in series nine of the hit BBC crime drama after two years in the role.
It was announced ahead of series 10 that she would not be returning to the role, and in last night’s episode viewers were introduced to her replacement, Marlon Pryce.
Marlon (Tahj Miles) was a wheeler dealer on Saint Marie, selling pirate DVDs to tourists among other shady exploits, much to Sergeant JP Hooper’s annoyance.
After being put in a cell at the police station, Marlon was then revealed to be the new trainee policeman by Commissioner Selwyn Patterson as part of a young offenders rehabilitation scheme.
Marlon will now be working with JP, replacing Ruby, and this annoyed some viewers.
One wrote on Twitter: “I miss Ruby #DeathInParadise.”
Another added: “I don’t like this boy, I want Ruby back #DeathInParadise.”
A third tweeted: “I knew it would be Marlon. I already miss Ruby.”
Speaking about her departure from the show last year, Shyko said: “Thank you for giving Ruby a chance because at first you really didn’t.
“You were rough on me the first couple of episodes. I remember one of the articles, ‘Ruby slammed, she’s awful.’
“My little heart almost broke. She probably was a bit annoying actually, but just thank you for getting behind her because it was really nerve-racking doing it after Danny [John-Jules].”
Death in Paradise continues on Thursday, January 21 at 9pm on BBC One.
