The 36-year-old revealed that fans were furious at her character

Fans will recall how DI Neville Parker went to confess his feelings for Sergeant Florence Cassell, but viewers never got to see what happened.

After last season, the French actress and singer revealed she had to take time away from her social media, with fans said to be furious at her character.

While discussing the new season, the 36-year-old said she was contacted by fans and asked to explain her actions.

When asked what she thought of the audience’s reaction to the cliff-hanger ending, she said: “I received so many messages on my Instagram. I didn’t go on Twitter because it was on fire.

“They were like, ‘you cannot do this to us’ and they were blaming me, but I was like, ‘I’m not the writer, don’t tell me this is cruel, I know’.”

Despite knowing what happened in the scene having filmed it, she was thrown by how it played out when it came to watching the episode live.

She added: “I read the script, shot the scene, watched the episode and, even though I knew what was going to happen, I was shocked.”

Putting that behind her, she expressed her excitement about coming back for the new season.

Delighted, she concluded: “I’m always very excited to return to a new series – since my very first one – because it’s always such a pleasure to be on the show.

“Especially after series ten, that was very nice, and the audience responded very well to it.

“The ending was so insane, after the huge cliff-hanger, I couldn’t wait to return and discover what will happen between Neville and Florence.”

Death in Paradise continues every Friday at 9pm on BBC One.
