Death in Paradise’s Kris Marshall tipped to replace Jodie Whittaker as new Doctor Who in series 14

DEATH in Paradise star Kris Marshall is tipped to replace Jodie Whittaker as the new Doctor Who in series 14.

The actor, who played DI Humphrey Goodman in the BBC detective drama, could be heading for a home in the TARDIS.

Kris Marshall has been tipped as the next Time Lord

The news comes as it’s suggested Jodie, 38, will make her last appearance as the Time Lord in the show’s forthcoming 13th series.

A recognisable TV favourite, Kris, 47, has also starred in sitcom My Family and more recently ITV period drama Sandition.

He also had a memorable role in the Christmas classic Love Actually.

He’s now the man bookies think is most likely to fill Jodie’s boots when she leaves Doctor Who.

Ladbrokes have him at 6/1, level with I May Destroy You’s Michaela Coel, while Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd) comes in at 7/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes commented: “The odds suggest it might be a three-horse race between Michaela Coel, Kris Marshall and Richard Ayoade to play Doctor Who next, but there are a handful of surprising names sitting in and among the frontrunners to replace Jodie Whittaker.”

It’s not the first time Kris has been tipped to take on the time travelling role.

When Peter Capaldi stepped down as the previous Time Lord in 2017, it coincided with Kris leaving Death in Paradise.

This led to lots of speculation from fans who tweeted: “So farewell then Kris Marshall in Death in Paradise “I quit” yes that is your catchphrase. Just in time for the casting of #DoctorWho Kris?”

Richard Ayoade also has high odds

“Kris Marshall is leaving death in paradise – he MUST be the next doctor who,” added another.

The dad-of-two later revealed he left Death in Paradise as he struggled with the time away from his family.
