SHETLAND viewers are all saying the same thing after the BBC drama made its highly anticipated return on Wednesday.
The season seven premiere saw Jimmy begin to investigate the disappearance of a young man.
Season 7 will be Douglas Henshall’s final season as DI Jimmy Perez
Fans were gripped by the new storyline, but some feared that the show may be setting up another major character exit as it will be Douglas Henshall’s final season as DI Jimmy Perez.
As the first episode aired, fans predicted there will be an emotional exit as we say goodbye to the detective.
Taking to Twitter, one said: “#Shetland one of the few things Hubby and I watch together. Going to be an emotional watch knowing it is Perez’s last case.”
Another wrote: “Got to catch it on iPlayer as can’t watch at 9pm. It’s going to be bittersweet, new series but Jimmy’s last….. Shetland without Jimmy seems unthinkable.”

A third penned: “Loved it. Gripped after 60 mins. Devastated to hear this is your last series, but always leave the people want more I guess. Continued success to you #Shetland.”
A fourth commented: “Just starting to watch the latest Shetland. So sorry that this is the last one you will be in.
“It won’t be the same without you. All the best: you’ve been brilliant throughout (and in everything you do).”
Alison O’Donnell, who plays DS Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh, opened up about her co-star’s exit.
She told Radio Times: “I am honestly bereft. Having the privilege of working so closely with Dougie for all these years was an insane luxury.
“I’m trying to be grateful for everything we experienced together rather than focussing on the obvious sadness.
“I’m also incredibly proud of what we achieved together, and I know he is too.”
Shetland airs on Wednesdays on BBC One at 9pm.
