Disney+ fans were left horrified after they misheard a lyric in the smash-hit Disney princess film Moana. A clip shared on British Memes' Instagram page sparked controversy as some viewers believed they heard a swear word in the song.
The Controversy
Viewers mistook a word from the Moana soundtrack as a swear word, with some convinced that one of the lyrics sounded like someone swearing in a Scottish accent. The clip gained over 1.3 million likes and left fans divided over what was actually sung in the song.
Moana's Success and Sequel
When Moana was released in 2016, it became a box office success, raking in over $56 million in its US opening weekend. The soundtrack, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame, also became a streaming sensation. Following the film's success, a sequel titled Moana 2 is set to be released in cinemas on November 27, 2024.
What to Expect in Moana 2
The official synopsis for Moana 2 teases an epic adventure as Moana journeys beyond the shores of Motunui with Maui and a new crew. Although Lin-Manuel Miranda won't be returning for songwriting duties, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Auli'i Cravalho will reprise their roles as Maui and Moana in the upcoming sequel.
Moana is currently available to stream on Disney+, while fans eagerly anticipate the release of Moana 2 later this year.
