DICK and Angel have redefined the meaning of rags to riches with their show Escape To The Chateau.
The pair have dedicated their lives to renovating a dilapidated French castle, and now they’re reaping the rewards…
Do Dick and Angel get paid to present Escape To The Chateau?
An exact figure is yet to be revealed, but the show gets almost three million viewers every Sunday night – making it one of the Channel 4’s most popular series.
Its audience is 50 per cent higher than Channel 4 normally get in the same show slot.
The couple also present the day-time spin-off show Escape To The Chateau DIY – so they must be raking in the big bucks.
Weddings can cost anywhere between £19,000 and £38,000 to book the chateau for your wedding – depending on what package you choose.
The chateau has the potential to host 25 weddings a year – which would equate to £1 million revenue from the weddings alone.
And their TV show has only boosted their sales – the couple say they got “a massive spike” in interest and are now fully booked until 2022.
They don’t only do weddings.
Angel and Dick sell glamping nights for £350 in “geodesic domes” in the chateau’s grounds.
They also offer £230 “days of decadence” where guests get the opportunity to meet Dick and Angel, as well as feast on lunch and afternoon tea at the chateau.
It doesn’t stop there – the couple actually charge guests £75 for a “working day in the garden”, with the website saying: “Yes to be frankly honest we are charging you to come and work!
“And in return you have to help make the place beautiful!'”
The chateau is located in the Pays de la Loire region of France. The journey is a three hours stint from Paris for a shift in the gardens.
The website added further guidelines and put: “There is a degree of manual work expected – though some jobs will be gentler than others – no matter what the weather we will be outside working, so please dress appropriately.”
How much did they pay for Château de la Motte-Husson?
The Strawbridge’s paid £280,000 when they bought the ruined property 2015.
The immense chateau has 45 bedrooms, 78 windows, 12 acres and one moat.
But when they bought it, the castle had no electricity, heating or running water – but they have transformed it over the course of six years.
It is now reportedly worth approximately £2 million.
The 45-room, five-storey home, Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson, has since been transformed into a stunning home and now into a flourishing business.
Can you buy Escape To The Chateau merchandise?
Yes, you can browse the merchandise here.
Dick and Angel sell everything from personalised books, to stationary, to homeware and food and drink.
The couple run a separate ‘Chateau Products’ team based in Swindon, Wiltshire to look after all the merchandise inquiries.
Angel Strawbridge also runs her own soft furnishings and wallpaper collection inspired by the Chateau.
What is the couple’s net worth?
The exact figures surrounding the couple’s net worth are unknown, but they are certainly not short of cash.
However, in an interview with The Telegraph, Dick insists they are a “normal” couple.
Dick said: “We are very normal and that’s the secret; people can see themselves in us,”
“Viewers can see our relationship reflected in their own lives. We are definitely not a celebrity couple in our world.
“My mum would clip my ear if I acted like a bloody idiot.”
