Caution for Discriminatory Aliens
DOCTOR Who is the latest show hit with odd trigger warnings — of "discriminatory" aliens.
Remake with Trigger Warnings
The caution comes on a new four-part animation. Viewers are alerted to PG-rated The Savages featuring "alien beings" and "fantasy violence."
Controversial References in Episodes
The British Board of Film Classification also says episodes include "verbal references to discrimination and the discriminatory social structure of an alien society." The BBC animation, released on DVD last month, is a remake of Doctor Who episodes starring William Hartnell — broadcast in 1966 but subsequently lost.
Decline in Viewing Figures
Doctor Who viewing figures have plummeted amid woke storylines featuring transgender characters. Actor Matt Smith, who played the 11th Doctor, has previously blasted trigger warnings.
Controversy over Trigger Warnings
He said: "I always thought that was one of the great things about doing Doctor Who. That you scared children, in a controlled way, but you did scare them. Imagine you go to kids watching Doctor Who, 'By the way, this might scare you.' No, I’m not into it."
"That’s why we go to the theatre, isn't it? To be shocked, to be arrested out of ourselves, to recognize ourselves in front and with an audience. I worry sometimes that we're moving towards a sort of sanitized version of everything and we're stripping the danger and the invention and the ingenuity out of everything. Isn't art meant to be dangerous? I worry everything's being dialed and dumbed down."
