Doctor Who boss reveals the truth behind Revolution of the Daleks title and what it means for Time Lord’s famous foe

DOCTOR Who’s boss has revealed the truth behind Revolution of the Daleks title and what it means for the Time Lord’s famous foe.

The festive special will air on New Year’s Day and sees Jodie Whittaker return once more as the Doctor who will fight the enemy aliens on Earth alongside her companions.

Doctor Who boss Chris Chibnall has opened up about the New Year’s Day Special’s title, Revolution of the Daleks

Whovians are desperate to know more about the title and what sort of Revolution could play out on screen and now show boss Chris Chibnall has given them an update.

He told Radio Times: “I think it has more than one meaning, I think you’ll understand when you’ve seen the episode!

“There are loads of different ways you can interpret that title, whether it’s a Dalek revolution, or whether there’s a revolution involving Daleks…”

He added that the Revolution also refers to the Doctors companions, including Bradley Walsh’s Graham, who is set to depart the show alongside Tosin Cole following the New Year episode.

The Doctor’s famous foe also returns

Chris said: “I think there are things happening within the episode emotionally that will change the dynamics on board the TARDIS too. We’re doing everything in there.”

Last week, Chris gave fans an update on series 13 filming, which is currently underway in Wales.

The cast and crew have to film under new Covid-19 health and safety regulations, and Chris has opened up about its difficulties in his Doctor Who Magazine column.

He wrote: “We are filming, I don’t think anyone on any production team right now would claim the new processes are easy.

Chris said the Revolution also applies to the Doctor’s companions

“Making any television drama has, in one fell swoop, become more demanding than it’s ever been. And that’s before you factor in the usual Doctor Who extras of monsters, stunts and Welsh weather.”

He continued: “The crew have just been through the most brutal week of weather out on location – as I write this on a Tuesday, I think they’re still soaking wet from the previous Friday.

Chris said the title means a lot of different things

“It has been, and will continue to be for many months ahead, a mammoth team effort.”

Despite the unfavourable conditions, Chris is really pleased with the footage that’s been filmed so far.

He said: “Luckily the rushes are thrilling. Mad, exciting, funny and scary. And look, there’s the Doctor. There’s the TARDIS in new places, new locations.”

Doctor Who: Revolution of the Daleks airs on New Year’s Day on BBC One.
