Doctor Who’s John Barrowman breaks silence on Captain Jack’s future with cheeky admission ahead of festive return

DOCTOR Who’s John Barrowman has broken his silence on Captain Jack’s future with a cheeky admission ahead of his festive return.

Last month, the BBC sci-fi series confirmed Captain Jack Harkness’ return in Revolution of the Daleks, which will air on New Year’s Day.

Filming for series 13 is currently underway, and while there’s no news if Jack will feature, John has insisted he would happily return whenever he were to be asked.

John has appeared in the show alongside the ninth (Christopher Eccleston) and tenth Doctors (David Tennant) and fans will be hoping he gets screen time with the current and 13th incarnation of the Time Lord, Jodie Whittaker in the festive special.

On the subject, John cheekily joked to RadioTimes.com: “I could see Jack being with many Doctors.

“I think Jack would love being with many Doctors… Jack would enjoy the experience of having multiple Doctors…”

The 53-year-old continued: “He’s not gender-specific, so he doesn’t care what they look like as long as this is the Doctor and the heart is the Doctor.

“That’s the one thing that I will say [about the festive special]. With the episode itself, that’s how he recognises who it is. That’s all I’ll say.”

While John said he would come back to Doctor Who “at the drop of a hat”, he said: “Except I’ll be grey-haired now, so we have to work that into the plot, that something happened to Jack’s hair!

“Or they’ll dye it – they can sort it out. But I don’t know what the future holds. We have to wait and see.”

Revolution of the Daleks will air on New Year’s Day

John previously told The Mirror: “I have such joy when I play him and I’d love to play him now and continue to explore other things with him, like how he becomes the Face of Boe, how his relationship with the Doctor develops to that timeline.

“I think he knows and Jack doesn’t reveal, because whenever you see Jack he’s always like ‘Heyyyy Doctor’ or kissing people.”

The actor stressed that the Face of Boe theory – which has been feverishly debated by fans over the years – was unconfirmed, and purely speculative on his part.

Doctor Who: Revolution of the Daleks airs on New Year’s Day on BBC One.
