Dog turned into a ‘gorilla’ with monobrow and hidden ears in extraordinary Pooch Perfect grooming challenge

VIEWERS will be stunned as a dog is transformed into a “gorilla” by hiding it’s ears and adding a monobrow on Pooch Perfect.

The semi-final of the BBC competition will see the contestant dog groomers, who are put head to head in an array of tasks, turn their hounds into a variety of different animals.

One of the dogs will be turned into a gorilla for the semi-final competition

In tonight’s episode of the quirky show, which is hosted by actress Sheridan Smith, 39, the competitors are given the task of turning their pets into other animals.

Desperately vying for a place in the grand finale, one woman is seen cutting a poodle’s hair to make him reminiscent of the silverback ape.

“So gorillas don’t have ears so I am actually scissoring his ears into his head,” the contestant tells the camera as she trims the pooch’s hair.

Demonstrating how she wants to give the appearances of a large rounded face, she adds: “I’ve left a little mono brow… and I’ll spray this hair back so it points up at the right angle”

The dog was being made to look like a gorilla

The large dog’s legs had been cut to resemble the ape’s fists, and his back fur brushed wide to portray strong upper body muscles for climbing trees.

Meanwhile, other contestants worked hard to rush against the clock and transform the other dogs into a horse, camel and a lion.

The niche show is set in an English country estate, and has whittled down 16 of Britain’s “best dog groomers” to be declared the country’s greatest.

Host Sheridan is joined by judges Verity Hardcastle and Colin Taylor, as well as vet Doctor Bolu Eso, who decide on the winner of each grooming round.

The show previously had viewers in hysterics when one of the contestants wore “finger condoms” to groom the dogs.

Even host Sheridan Smith lost her composure as the conversation turned to the different techniques and instruments the groomers would be using.

Reminiscent of secondary school sex education, judge Colin demonstrated how to put a finger condom, telling Sheridan: “Slide it down, it might fly off. We hope it doesn’t fly off.

“These are used to actually get some grip on the coat. It helps you grab the hair and you can be really, really detail-y.”

Contestants will battle it out in the semi-finals

Unable to hide her giggles, Sheridan was in tears as she tried to keep a straight face.

Fans watching at home were also cracking up and rushed to Twitter to comment on the hilarious moment.

One wrote: “Wow #PoochPerfect @Sheridansmith1 never thought you had to use condoms to groom a dog!!???”

“Finger condoms!!! Loving Sheridans reaction!! #PoochPerfect,” added another Twitter user.

Actress and television presenter Sheridan said the dog groomers take the competition “really seriously”, adding that it is their “livelihoods at stake”.

She added that she “had no idea how much skill goes into it”.

The BBC were recently forced to defend the new series and insisted “the care and wellbeing of the dogs was of the upmost importance”.

A spokesperson shared: “On set we had an RSPCA approved Animal Welfare Consultant, a Grooming Consultant, and a vet, to ensure that we put every precaution in place to keep the dogs safe and well.
