DR. Alex George has hit back at fat shamers with a shirtless photo on Instagram.
He confidently told his millions of fans that he “loves” his figure in a bid to normalise bodies of all sizes on social media.
The former Love Island star, 30, wrote on Instagram: “I would like to say that I am grateful for the skin that I live in, I love my body, and I am proud of who I am.
“Let’s come together this week and shout from the roof tops, eating disorders need early intervention and support. Normalize ALL body types.”
The medic also addressed the issue of eating disorders being a huge killer.
He said: “Although we cannot ‘blame’ social media or body image for eating disorders, as there are a multitude of issues that can contribute, speaking to young people and experts, it can certainly play a part.
“This week on Eating Disorder Awareness Week we need to raise awareness of how serious eating disorders can be with 1 in 50 people currently suffering. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of ALL mental illnesses.”
It wasn’t the first time Dr. Alex has shut down cruel body shaming trolls with an empowering message.
He took to Instagram last month to empower his 2million followers after feeling “embarrassed and nervous” to hit the gym himself.
The UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador snapped a topless mirror selfie in which he proudly flaunted his physique.
He said: “Fat shaming and weight stigma can be such a barrier to exercise. Over the years I have felt embarrassed and nervous to train in the gym when I’m bigger. I AM NOT ASHAMED ANYMORE.”
The TV star took to Instagram to share an honest and heartfelt post to address the “stigma” of taking medication to help his mental health in November.
The Love Island star shared a photo of himself holding an anxiety pill in his hand.
“I have been thinking quite hard about whether to post this, but I feel it’s the right thing to do,” Alex wrote alongside the photo.
“So many people live with medication stigma everyday, a fear that they will be judged as being weak or discriminated against, simply for taking a pill to help with their mental health. The other day I did a pole on my stories and 75% of you have faced medication stigma. That is so sad.
“I take medication, alongside therapy and self-care, to help with my anxiety. I really needed this treatment but for years I didn’t access it, on reflection I was worried about what people would think.
“I can tell you now, I am not ashamed. I AM PROUD to take control of my own health. This does not make me weak or less able, it makes me stronger.”
