Alastair played football anthem ‘It’s Coming Home’ on the bagpipes today

Alastair was born and raised in England but his parents are Scottish, and he proudly played the traditionally Scottish instrument in honour of tonight’s Euro 2020 match.

England will be playing Denmark for a spot in this Sunday’s final later this evening.

Alastair performed famous football chant ‘It’s Coming Home’ on the pipes – but warned before he started: “This is a really hard tune to play on the bagpipes so it sounds a bit iffy at times…

“It’s Coming Home, but as you’ve never heard it before.”

Susanna also teased her co-host over his performance

Dr Hilary was shown covering his ears as he watched live from the studio alongside other GMB guests.

While the cast and crew cheered with delight as Alastair finished, he was vocally disappointed in his performance.

As he sat back down, he said: “My dad will be turning in his grave, he really will – honestly so bad.”

Alastair was disappointed in his performance

Later in the show, Alastair added: “I’m a perfectionist and I messed up the little bit where Gary Lineker scored.”

Susanna Reid assured him: “It sounded very good…” before joking: “It just didn’t sound like ‘It’s Coming Home’ throughout the entire performance…”

Alastair returned to the ITV breakfast show earlier today, taking over from Richard Madeley as Susanna’s co-host this week.
