The hairdresser is tying up every loose end she can before her illness takes over – this includes trying to form a bond with her long-lost mother Emma Harding.

However, in scenes due to air on BBC One next week, Lola busies herself with making preparations for her charity fundraising event, which she thought about in recent scenes of the London-based drama.

Unfortunately, she’s stopped dead in her tracks when the hospital ask her to come in for an early appointment.

Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) tries to hide his concerns from a panicked Lola and remains optimistic about the visit.

While in hospital, Lola gets a devastating update on her health and feels more determined than ever to live life to the fullest.

She insists that she wants to plough on with the fundraiser in later scenes and asks Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) if she can hire Peggy’s for the event.

Sadly, Sam declines, leading to Lola lashing out before Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) steps in, promising her that Peggy’s is hers for free if she needs it.

Lola is touched by his generosity but a drunken Sam feels humiliated that her brother has undermined her once again.

Could this cause further tensions in the family?

Lola’s death was confirmed with a flashforward scene recently aired on our screens.

Viewers of the long-running program have been devastated to see her deal with her illness.

They were left in tears when Jay proposed to Lola and the pair went on to tie the knot in tear-jerking scenes.

Lola’s nearest and dearest, in the likes of Ben Mitchell, have tried to find her a treatment, to no avail and they have no choice but to come to terms with the fact her time is quickly running out.

How will Lola cope with her big news?

Will she tell her daughter Lexi, from whom she initially held the truth?

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
