Stacey has been strapped for cash providing for her three kids and grandchild on the way.

She is struggling with the cost of living crisis and fears she won’t be able to feed her kids.

Viewers of the BBC soap saw Stacey search the sofa cushions for money in Wednesday’s episode.

Just minutes into the episode, she was shocked to learn they had no milk or cereal to feed her kids breakfast.

However some viewers were left baffled to why the family is pleading poverty when there are five other working adults living there.

Cleaner Jean, cab driver Harvey, former lawyer Eve, barman Alfie and chippy worker Freddie all live in the Slater household.

With this in mind, the Slaters shouldn’t be scraping by.

Viewers have criticised the other residents for being blissfully unaware of Stacey’s struggles and happily drinking and relaxing in the pub.

Taking to Twitter, one fan said: “Why is Stacey taking the flack for all the bills?

“So many adults living under one house, drinking in the Queen Vic at lunchtime and Stacy is the only one stressing over bills.”

Another wrote: “Isn’t there Stacey, Eve, Jean, Harvey, Freddie and Alfie living in that house?

“Why aren’t they all getting proper jobs if they’re struggling for money that much, why do they only do jobs in the square that don’t pay a lot and they’re always in the pub or café.”

The mum-of-three recently struggled to pay back a loan shark.

But instead of asking her other residents for help, she struggled in silence.

Stacey eventually went to her cousin Kat Slater and fiancé Phil Mitchell for help after the loan shark broke into the Slater home and threatened her.

Kat said she would sort it and lend her the money, while Phil went with Stacey to meet the loan shark with a baseball bat in hand in case he tried to attack her again.

Phil and Stacey ordered the loan shark to take the money and never show his face around here again.

But is this the last we have seen of him?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday from 7:30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
