Following West Ham’s win, the show aired a special celebratory scene
The Hammers secured their first major trophy in over 50 years thanks to Jarrod Bowen’s 90th minute winner in Prague.
David Moyes’ men were given a hero’s welcome upon their arrival back home and fans came out in their numbers to celebrate the moment with them.
To celebrate the win, EastEnders producers wrote a scene to mark the occasion.
It saw Jack Branning and Alfie Moon sat together at the Queen Vic donning their blue and maroon coloured kit.
The celebratory exchange saw Alfie declare: “If I have another kid I’m going to call him Jarrod or Declan.”
Jack replied: “I’m going for Michail.”
However, the light-heart moment didn’t go down well with viewers at home who branded it ‘cringe’.
Taking to social media, one fan said: “It’s so cringey whenever Eastenders try to be current. The Coronation and now West Ham.”
A second wrote: “West Ham on the bloody Eastenders now.”
“F**k off with this West Ham s**t,” said a third.
A fourth did like the nod, and said: “Nice touch that #WestHam got a mention.”
West Ham’s win was the club’s first success in Europe since Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters and Alan Sealey won the European Cup-Winners’ Cup at Wembley in May 1965.
Moore, who would go on to lift the World Cup for England the following year, and his team-mates were greeted by fans from the balcony of East Ham Town Hall.
This time, it was led by manager Moyes and club captain Rice, who may have played his last game in claret and blue.
