YEARS after leaving the Square, Ross Kemp is headed back to BBC One to take on the role of host.
But could he ever consider reprising the iconic role of Grant Mitchell in EastEnders? The actor gave an update.
Grant Mitchell hasn’t been seen since 2016
Actor Ross Kemp has focused on other projects
He spoke about a potential return while on the One Show last night
The hard man hasn’t been seen in Walford since he waved his late mother Peggy goodbye in 2016.
While he’s appeared in a flashback in 2022, as his sister Sam settled into life in Albert Square, Grant remains in Portugal.
The character fled abroad with his daughter Courtney soon after his mother’s tear-jerking funeral.
Meanwhile, Ross Kemp has encountered success off-screen with different projects.
The 58-year-old will be daring celebs to try their luck in a nail-biting new quiz show on Saturday nights.
Ross is bringing back the hit program Bridge of Lies, with familiar faces at his side, and spoke about his new hosting role during last night’s instalment of The One Show.
He took this as an opportunity to clear up any doubt on a potential EastEnders comeback – which he hasn’t completely ruled out.
“I don’t think you can ever say never, you know”, Ross said.
“I loved the part, I did it for 10 years. I must have liked it because I stayed there for 10 years.”
However, nothing is definite for Ross as a return would require some thorough organisation due to his busy schedule.
“But, you know, look, it was great fun, I loved the cast, it was a great job. [I’m] doing lots of different things right now, but never say never”, he added.
Fans have eagerly speculated Grant would come back to Albert Square, most notably after Sharon Watts (portrayed by Letitia Dean) contacted him.
The EastEnders royalty called Grant out of fear when his brother Phil (Steve McFadden) was willing to face death behind bars.
This reignited hopes of a new love triangle between Sharon, Grant and Phil.
Eventually, Phil made his choice and turned back to Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) while Sharon remained determined to get him back.
Later in 2022, BBC One viewers firmly believed Grant would come back to help Phil amid his feud with DCI Samantha Keeble.
But the tough man is still a no-show.
Could things change?
EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday from 7.30pm on BBC One.
