The hard hitting storyline has led to an outpouring of messages for the 33-year-old Irish man, but some fans have overstepped the mark.

Sharing an incident with followers, Aidan tweeted:  “Thanks everyone for sending messages and support about Eastenders. I’m really grateful, but please don’t be calling my parents at their work. That’s too far…!”

When a fan expressed their concern, he added: “It wasn’t an abusive call or anything, all curious about story etc just was a bit

In harrowing scenes recently aired on BBC One, Ben (portrayed by Max Bowden) was raped by Lewis after a night out.

Ben has been in denial about his attack, which was reinforced by Lewis’ gas lighting.

The mechanic has been really struggling, but in upcoming scenes he finally opened up to his mother Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), a rape survivor herself.

Kathy has since encouraged Ben to report Lewis but he begins to have doubts in scenes due to air next week.

Speaking about taking on such a huge role, Aidan told the Irish Examiner: “I knew from day one. I had discussions with my agent and with EastEnders in terms of what the storyline would contain and the mature sensitivity of it.

“We worked closely with various organisations, such as Male Survivors Partnership and Survivors UK, in order to make sure this story is told in an accurate way.

“You want to build up that character. You want to have an idea of the storyline that’s coming. But some parts of the building of that character mean you have to forget [what’s coming for Lewis].

“You want people to see depth to that character. We were working closely to ensure the arc is built. It’s my first experience of playing that genre of a storyline, with that depth.”
