EastEnders spoilers: Bernie Taylor takes dangerous risk to be Rainie and Stuart Highway’s surrogate

BERNIE Taylor goes to great lengths to become Rainie and Stuart Highway’s surrogate next week in EastEnders. 

Bernie – who is played by Clair Norris in the BBC One soap – offered to be the couple’s surrogate to solve her family’s escalating financial woes.

But in recent scenes, Bernie was told there were a few factors that could cause complications with a potential pregnancy. 

Bernie tried to convince Rainie that she was still up for it, but Rainie was clearly torn. 

Next week, Molly suggests going on holiday and Bernie is forced to tell her about her surrogacy plan and the Taylor’s financial problems.

Molly is floored and even more shocked when she realises Bernie hasn’t told Karen.

Molly asks Bernie to forget about the surrogacy plan for the sake of their relationship. 

When Denise brings Bailey home after finding her at the allotments with Amy, Mitch breaks down and promises her that he’s got his job back. 

When Bernie chimes in that she’s expecting a bonus, a confused Karen quizzes her, but Bernie makes up an excuse. 

Later, Bernie finds Rainie and asks her about the surrogacy, but Rainie turns her down. 

When Bernie finds herself under pressure to come up with the money she promised her family, she goes to drastic lengths. 

Talking about Bernie’s motives for wanting to become Rainie’s surrogate, Bernie actress Clair revealed: “She finds out that Rainie and Stuart are still looking for a surrogate and decides that this will be the best way to get a lot of money that could change the Taylor’s lifestyle and living conditions, that’s why she goes to them and wants to be their surrogate.”

Speaking about the family’s money problems, she added: “She is definitely feeling the stress more than ever. Karen tries to keep it away from the kids as much as possible until it becomes very obvious. Bernie wonders ‘how can we be in this situation again?’ although she realises that this is the way that life goes sometimes. 

“Bernie is upset and disappointed that they are back in this situation, she knows that they need to work it out and this is when things start clicking in her head and she tries to see where she can help.

“Bernie feels like because she is oldest out of the siblings in the house, she needs to take action.”
