EastEnders spoilers: Sam Mitchell bombshell return storyline revealed

SAM Mitchell hasn’t been seen in the Square since 2016, as Danniella Westbrook portrayed her for the last time.

The black sheep of the Mitchell family is back next week in EastEnders and ruffles a few feathers.

Sam Mitchell heads back to Walford

But her return doesn’t make everyone happy

Tensions are brimming in Walford and fans of the long-running BBC One soap know Sam is back with a vengeance.

Kim Medcalf is reprising the role, six years after her character (which she portrayed in the 2000s) was last in Walford.

But not everybody will be happy to see her.

Coming up, Sam returns to Albert Square and immediately gets on the wrong side of Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) and Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean).

SOAP SWAP

EastEnders star Matt Lapinskas joins Hollyoaks as major new villain

Both, less than pleased to see Sam, are even more frustrated when the latter remains tight-lipped about why she’s back and enjoys winding them both up.

However, another resident is more alarmed than he is displeased to see Sam return.

Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) is shocked to see Sam and, although she assures him she’ll only stay for a brief visit, he tells his wife Denise Fox (Diane Parish) Ricky deserves to know who she is.

While she reignites old feuds and causes trouble in every corner of Walford, will Sam reveal why she’s really back in the Square?

As mentioned above, Sam has not been seen since 2016 and left her only son Ricky (Frankie Day) behind in the fictional London borough.

Sam returned just in time for her mother Peggy’s funeral, giving away clear signs she was struggling to cope with Ricky.

Eventually, she decided the boy would be better off without her and abandoned him, leaving him with Jack – who initially wanted nothing to do with him.

Jack has since loved his son, helping him get rid of bad habits like constantly eating sweets and playing video games.

Meanwhile, Sam had left to go back to Portugal, where she started off a new life.

But could she be back in Walford to help her older brother Phil, who is stuck in prison?

Or is she back to take care of Ben, who is clearly struggling with the trauma he was left with after a homophobic attack?

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday on BBC One.
