EastEnders theme tune changed for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – and fans aren’t happy

ROYALTY will be visiting Albert Square tonight to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

To mark Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles‘ visit, the EastEnders theme tune has been rewritten – and fans are not impressed.

Anyone tuning in to the box, regularly or not, would be able to recognise the EastEnders theme tune.

So it’s no wonder why fans of the BBC One soap would be annoyed to learn the iconic tune has been rewritten by Simon May, the original theme tune composer.

Following Tuesday’s dramatic events in the long-running drama, viewers discovered a remastered version of the classic tune, made to mark the Platinum Jubilee.

Royals and Brits alike will celebrate the Queen’s long reign this weekend.

Angry EastEnders fans took to Twitter to share their frustration over the new theme tune.

One viewer complained: “Can they stop going on about the Jubilee? No one cares!!”

A second penned: “Think this will send our Shirl over the edge!” as another quipped: “Jubilee scenes are already ruining my day.”

“They really are hammering us over the head with it”, a fourth added.

One final soap commented: “please don’t let those royals mess with the nostalgic EastEnders theme tune.”

While many viewers weren’t keen on the changes brought to the show, others believed them to be the perfect way to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s seven decades on the throne.

“Lovely. I do not accept any tinkering with the EastEnders theme tune, unless it is done by the peerless SimonMay. Though nothing will ever out do Julia’s Theme”, one fan wrote.

As spoilers have confirmed, soap bosses have thrown Jubilee celebrations into the mix as Walford residents will pay tribute to the Queen with a street party.

But as it has also been confirmed, notably earlier this year upon their visit on the EastEnders set, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall will make an appearance in tonight’s instalment of the show.

The future king and Camila Parker Bowles will be welcomed by estranged spouses Mick and Linda Carter (portrayed by Danny Dyer and Kellie Bright).

Prince Charles and his wife will be introduced to other residents before making a toast to the Queen.

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday on BBC One.
