Emmerdale fans break down in tears as Laurel and Jai go through with abortion after Down’s Syndrome diagnosis

EMMERDALE fans broke down in tears tonight as Laurel and Jai went through with an abortion after their baby’s Down’s Syndrome diagnosis.

The manager, who is played by actress Charlotte Bellamy, recently found out the happy news that she was expecting her first child with partner Jai (Chris Bisson).

But over the past month viewers of the popular ITV soap have watched one of the show’s most controversial storylines this year play out between the couple as they decide what is best for them and their unborn child.

After being told at her first scan that there were irregularities with the foetus, Laurel underwent Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) to find out if their baby had Down’s Syndrome.

Last week it was confirmed by doctors that their child has the chromosomal disorder, and since finding out the news, Laurel and Jai have discussed in great detail what that means for them in the future.

Yesterday fans of the show saw Laurel consider telling her kids, Gabby and Arthur, that she’d had a miscarriage to avoid telling them she was getting an abortion as she felt “ashamed”.

After plucking up the courage to tell them, Laurel’s son Arthur broke down in tears when she shared the decision that she is planning to go ahead and terminate her pregnancy.

And during tonight’s episode, emotions ran high for many viewers as Laurel underwent the procedure with Jai’s support.

Many took to Twitter to share how they were feeling about the sad storyline.
