The businessman – who was played by actor Bhasker Patel – was found dead collapsed at the bottom of his stairs after missing his son Jai’s wedding.

Despite the tragic twist that no one saw coming, viewers are claiming that Emmerdale “is in the worst state it’s ever been.”

Viewers have also called for the whole Anderson family to be axed from the soap.

Taking to a fan forum, one fan said: “There was also a list as long as my arm as to who I would have axed before Rishi. The whole Anderson family, Wendy, Liam, Chas, David, Jacob, Will and I could go on.”

Another wrote: “Emmerdale has plunged to an all-time low with people and plots. Need action cut the cast.”

A third penned: “That said there are some GREAT characters in the dales, but with the wrong characters getting the focus. (Claudette, Dan, Amelia, Victor, Charles, Wendy – none of this should be at the show front).”

A fourth added: “It’s a shame Rishi was axed. It should have been a deadwood character killed off.”

The Anderson family includes Charles Anderson, Ethan Anderson, Claudette Anderson, Naomi Walters, Victor Anderson and Esme (Eva Fontaine).

After spending 25 years behind bars, Victor (played by Eddie Osei) was adamant on settling down in the village and bonding with his estranged family.

But his son Charles (Kevin Mathurin) was more than reluctant to allow him back into the inner circle and the enigmatic newcomer explained the vicar was partially responsible for his downfall.

To top it all off, Victor revealed he was also suffering from a brain aneurysm, although many fans of the Yorkshire-based soap are suspecting he could be faking it.

Charles makes a shock confession and viewers could be proven right.

Coming up, Victor tries to find a way back into his wife Claudette’s heart by flirting and Charles is thrown to see her so coquettish.

Meanwhile, Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) finds a troubled Charles and he’s grim as he prepares to spill all about their family history.

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
